MS Luv Charity Car Show – Saturday, 3 Nov 2012

On a very nice Saturday morning, 8 Mercedes and Smarts representing the Alamo group participated in the 4th Annual Car Show in Helotes, TX with all proceeds going to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.  This event, while local to the San Antonio area, is rather large with a wide array of crafts vendors, food and beer of all kinds, a live band (that was actually quite good!), and of course, a People’s Choice Car Show.

The show in year’s past had focused on American rods and street iron, but by working with the Event Coordinator (thanks, DeWayne!) we were able to set up a dedicated Mercedes/Smart class.  We arrived together, which allowed us to park together.  Well, except for Joyce.  Because the morning started out a little poopy, with light drizzle, she didn’t want her Smart car to get wet.  She and Bob eventually showed up – fashionably late!

And what a sight, seeing those ‘stars’ proudly displayed all in a row!  As a car club, we generated a lot of excitement and enthusiasm amongst the crowd.  And we took advantage of that by picking up two prospective members!  And we were parked in the absolute perfect location.  For as the afternoon progressed and the sun came out from behind the clouds, it got rather warm.  The shop owner we were parked in front of (owner of a fine ML, by the way!) was gracious enough to allow the use of her storefront shade.  So we sat, enjoyed a nice, warm afternoon in the cool of the shade, and each other’s company.

While not actively participating in the show, Daniel arrived later with his beautiful 560SL as did member ‘Baja’, also in a sharp looking 560SL.

The rest of the show was nice, but with all the MB/Smarts together, we clearly had THE club advantage being all together.  As the afternoon progressed, a quick count of the entire car show pointed out that we were the second largest club in attendance!  Way to go, Alamo!

We all had a great time!  And as the time came to give out the awards of the day, we had to wait patiently, for ours was the very last class to be counted.  Congratulations to Sak for taking 1st place in his sleek SL65, Charles for 2nd place in his beautiful SL500, and Morris taking 3rd for his gorgeous 250CE.  Great day had by all, supporting a wonderful charity.  Can’t wait for the next show!
