The Alamo Mercedes-Smart Owners is a group of enthusiasts that enjoy the exhilaration of driving the Mercedes and Smart brands. Although we have members throughout the San Antonio and surrounding environs, we also have participants residing in the Austin, New Braunfels and I-35 corridor areas. Our passion is for both the marque brand and friendships that develop through camaraderie around our motorcars, not geographical boundaries.
Our members are men and women of all ages and occupations. What we demonstrate in common is a ‘young at heart’ spirit coupled with a fighter pilot attitude. This combination is, sadly, lacking in some car clubs. Our members are unpretentious and drive everything from old to new, project cars, ‘Daily Drivers’, and true classics. No stuffy egos, no dues, no BS – just good people who love to gather around the iconic MB Star and Smart ‘C’. Our slogan is simple: Cars bring us together, camaraderie keeps us together. We value your friendship, not your dues. We are a car club with a non-car club attitude. AMSO members as a group are charismatic but very unpretentious.
We believe a car club should be about action and collective use of our cars; not static meetings centered on a meal. Thus, we prefer to drive collectively, as a group, to the countless destinations within the region. Whether short jaunts or day-trips measuring hundreds of miles, we travel together; as family. Our driving philosophy is simple – No one is left behind; we travel together, as a singular group. By travelling together to event destinations, we further enjoy the camaraderie of each other. Whether the destination is the coastal areas, Hill Country, city, or western plains, we have a spirit that prefers the open back-country roads and the beautiful scenery. Charity car shows attract us as a group so as to collectively give back to the community.
The Alamo Mercedes-Smart Owners is not affiliated with the Mercedes-Benz Club of America. We prefer the freedom of independence from large, stodgy car club organizations that are more interested in politics, egos, and monetary dues. In our group, MBCA membership is neither an advantage nor a hindrance, and certainly not a requirement. We're free - in more ways than one - yet provide many of the same, if not better, benefits.
From a technical perspective, we help each other and partner with multiple suppliers in the San Antonio area. We are able to obtain genuine Mercedes-Benz/Smart car parts at far below retail and have developed a network of repair facilities that can assist in any capacity, whether restoration, modern warranty, or simply preventive maintenance.
We frequently partner with other car clubs for various events, believing that meeting new people and experiencing other clubs allows us to expand our ideas and thinking. It also further propagates the marque brand and creates new friendships.
